This adaptation of the famed novel was directed by Maurice Tourneur and stars Madge Bellamy as Lorna Doone, with John Bowers, Frank Keenan, Jack McDonald and Donald MacDonald.

This DVD edition has been transferred from an excellent 35mm restoration print financed by cinephile Jesse Pierce, who also produced this home video edition in 2001. The slightly windowboxed video transfer will appear as full-frame on most television monitors.

The film is accompanied by a music score composed and arranged for strings by Mari Lijima.

The spare supplemental section includes a stills gallery, a biography by director Maurice Tourneur, and a New York Times review of the film.

This is our recommended home video edition of the film.

Released virtually head-to-head against the Kino edition above, this Grapevine DVD-R edition is touted as “transferred from an original print,” but 16mm or 35mm we do not know.
