This DVD edition reveals an excellent full-frame video transfer that has chiefly utilized a 35mm nitrate positive held by the Eye Film Instituut Nederland.

A joint effort of Lobster Films, Paris, and the EYE Film Instituut Nederland, with assistance from Kevin Brownlow, David Shepard and Lenny Borger, the film has been restored as closely as possible to its 1919 premiere form.

The film is accompanied by an excellent orchestral music score arranged, composed and conducted by Robert Israel.

Among the supplemental material is a booklet containing essays by historians Kevin Brownlow and Leslie Hawkins.

Based on our early viewing of this disc, we enthusiastically recommended it — not only for its tremendous disc production but also for this full-length version of this highly-prized film. Unfortunately, the DVD is now out-of-print. We recommend the Blu-ray Disc edition noted above.
